AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT - A LOVE STORY

"Remember I love you," I say.

"I can never forget you for a moment," he says. "We're not two people but one. You're the raison d'être for my heartbeat, darling. I love you for e-ter-ni-ty."

When I reach home several hours later I call him. I want to tell him I've arrived safely but he's forgotten I was there.

"When are you coming?" he says. "Please come at the speed of light!"

"I just got home from you," I say.

"Oh really? Well, come at dawn then…"

Drawing by Fun @chillicrabkitchen

THE DANDELION GIRL - A LOVE STORY

Her eyes were blue, he saw when he came up to her - as blue as the sky that framed her slender, silhouette.  Her face was oval and young and soft and sweet.  It evoked a deja vu so poignant that he had to resist an impulse to reach out and touch her wind-kissed cheek.

He looked at her closely.  He had never seen such a guileless countenance. "And do you come her often?"

"Oh, yes.  This is my favorite space-time coordinate.  I stand here for hours sometimes and look and look and look.  Day before yesterday I saw a rabbit, and yesterday a deer, and today, you."

Next afternoon when he climbed the hill it was empty.  At first his disappointment numbed him, and then he thought, She's late, that's all.  She'll probably show up any minute.  And he sat down on the granite bench to wait.  But she did not come.  Day before yesterday I saw a rabbit, and yesterday a deer, and today, you.

THE VELVETEEN RABBIT - A LOVE STORY

What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand." "... but once you are Real you can't become unreal again. It lasts for always."
